WHERE AND WHEN

From 1st June 2008 there are some important changes to Penrith Chess Club's arrangements for meeting. We are now open on THURSDAY evenings from 7.30pm. And we meet at the BEACON SOCIAL CLUB, Duke St, Penrith, Cumbria CA11 7NB.

The club meets in the large first floor room, which is up the stairs on the right hand side of the bar. Click here for a map showing the club's location.

There are a few Thursdays when the room has other uses and the club does not meet. In 2008 these are 12th June, 14th August, 11th September, 9th October, and 11th December.

PARKING

In the evenings there is free parking in the street and local car parks.

On Saturday afternoons, when there is one-hour disc parking in the streets, the best place to park is the Bluebell Lane car park.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership fee in 2007-08 has been kept at £15.00. For that members get a weekly three hour session of chess, entry to the club championships and registration with the Cumbria Chess Association. You can also take advantage of the excellent bar prices.

There is a further fee of £10.00 if you want to take part in league matches or tournaments. It will register you with the Northern Counties Chess Union, give discounts at regional tournaments, and get you an official playing grade from the English Chess Federation.

TRY FIRST

If you are not sure if you would like to be a member of the club, then come and try it for a few weeks. You will be able to play friendly games and get to know club members.
